Mediapolis Now: a new podcast channel

Over at Mediapolis: A Journal of Cities and Culture, I have taken on a new role as Audio Editor. My main responsibility in this new role is coordinating and producing content for the journal’s new podcast channel, Mediapolis Now. The channel is hosted on Podbean, and available for subscription through the most popular podcast distributors (e.g. Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play, Pandora).

This is not Mediapolis’ first foray into audio content. Credit here must go to Brendan Kredell, who alongside being one of the former Managing Editors for the journal, produced a series of content running under the moniker of Mediapolis Live. The change now however is that the journal is creating a dedicated Audio Editor role which, hopefully, should allow for our audio content to expand a little.

The aim of Mediapolis Now reflects that of Mediapolis. The podcast channel will be putting media and the city into conversation. The initial plan is that the channel will host three series:

  1. Voices – this series, mainly hosted by me, will be interviews with thinkers and practitioners about their work at the junction of cities, culture and media. The first episode is an interview with Zlatan Krajina and Deborah Stevenson (also embedded below).
  2. Events – here we’re looking to make available good quality audio recordings of recent talks and symposia.
  3. Essays – this will feature audio readings of selected Mediapolis articles.

Though all of the above content can be accessed directly via Podbean, or through a third-party podcast subscription, episodes will also be published within specific issues of Mediapolis, and also collected within a dedicated Mediapolis Now section.

I’d certainly welcome suggestions for possible content in Mediapolis Now. If you have any please contact me at nowpodcast@mediapolisjournal.com.
